  Convenience solution for pneumatic cylinders
Turck extends the BIM-UNT product family with new versions of magnetic field sensors for the detection of pistions on pneumatic cylinders

12/07 – July 25, 2007

The sensor, fieldbus, connectivity and interface specialist Turck will present new magnetic field sensors for the detection of pistons on pneumatic cylinders at the 2007 Motek fair. The new sensors extend the recently announced BIM-UNT product family. The BIM-UNT can detect all magnets in standard pneumatic cylinders safely and without multiple switch points.

Turck’s new BIM-UNT versions can be customized to customer’s specific applications. Apart from the standard models with cable exit, Namur versions are available for the application in explosion hazardous areas, as well as versions with direct M8/M12 connectors at the housing and a pair-set with two sensors on one M12 connector. As an economic alternative to magnetic field sensors with reed contacts, Turck offers the BIM-UNT-AP7X. Although both versions meet on a comparable price level, the BIM-UNT is wear-free and shock resistant. The maximum operating current of 50 mA is sufficient for most applications.

With a total length of only 28 mm, the BIM-UNT is one of the most compact sensors on the market. The active faces are located directly at the sensor end and thus enable a safe detection of the piston rod up to the end postion at the compact short-stroke cylinder. The vibration-resistant fixation of the screw near the cable routing prevents an uplift of the sensor when pulling the cable. A useful support for adjustment and operation is the local and clearly visible LED, by which the switching status of the sensor is displayed at any time.

An extensive accessory programme is available for the BIM-UNT. Apart from mounting tools for other cylinder types (e.g. profile, tie-rod, round or dovetail cylinders) the set also comprises the clip-on accessories for fine tuning of the switch point, the fixation tools for subsequent recovery of the switch point and the clips for safe cable routing.
